Tim and Frances Prepare for the Grocery Store

Where are you, Roy Herman – Frances’s cowboy father – when we need you, as we venture forth on foot to the neighborhood grocery store? You knew the value of bandanas against clouds of trail-dust, following cows and horses on the move, and you knew how to tie the low-tech masks so they would stay put on your nose: not slip down-and-off if tied too loose, nor put a permanent crimp on the proboscis if tied too tight. You missed Covid-19 by about 46 years. RIP. You made a winner, your daughter, my amazing wife! (She credits you with priming her sense of dry humor from your own.)
